"We begin where we are, and how we are, and what happens, happens" - T.K.V. Desikachar, The Heart of Yoga. This is a favorite quote of Faye's, one of our lovely instructors here at Kranti Yoga. I just love it and read this book before coming to Kranti. I felt it spoke well of what today represents for us . . . the beginning of our peer teaching sessions . . . an opportunity to discover who we are, how we are in our own practice as teachers, as yogis, with the shining spirit of Yoga.
This morning was another self-practice day. We are all feeling quite tired and sore with various aches, pains or injuries from overuse . . . we've been told it's quite normal for week 3.
I was feeling particularly low this morning as my boy Grey was speaking at a Gala for a very important cause, and was a milestone for him, and our family, given where he is at today. I was very sad when I realized I'd be away for this event but didn't realize just how deeply I'd be affected when I saw the photos of Grey in his suit, looking so handsome - seeing the pics of my boys together so grown up having come so far just made me long to be there. But I had to force myself to turn it around and focus more on just how very proud of him I am for the journey he has found himself on and the place he is in today. Words cannot descibe how very thankful I am for Floyd Wiebe and his family and for TJ's Gift Foundation. This gala speaks volumes for so very much. I cannot wait to see the video.
We had pranayama meditation again this morning which can often be a challenge . . . just trying to maintain a state of thoughtlessness, not letting my mind wander, not falling asleep because I'm in India and this is an amazing gift to have these teachings and I really want to experience it to the fullest capacity. Today was just not possible. Also, I think many of us are waiting to figure out what exactly we're supposed to feel. I think when it happens we will just know. The closest I came was when I saw a dim yellow light moving up and down my spine when my eyes were closed and Upendra was singing the chakra mudra. I have faith . . . it will happen, I just have to let it.
Today was the day . . . the first four people did their full one hour sequences to each of their groups . . . the sequences we all worked so hard to create and personalize. Elaine was the first in our group to go . . . so much courage to go first. She did so amazingly well. Her intention was so lovely, reminding us to be thankful for the strength and courage it took to make this journey to India and participate in this experience; to be grateful for all the wonderful relationships we've formed; placing the visualization of the sights and sounds of Kranti Yoga, right down to the chug of the train. Her sequence had great flow, her voice was peaceful and soothing, she did a great job with her adjustments . . . she just did such an incredible job. "We begin where we are, and how we are, and what happens, happens".
From discussions with everyone else who taught tonight, everyone felt great about their performance. It was likely a little daunting (or a lot) having one of the instructors do their class . . . "will they like my sequence? What will they think of my delivery?" It's always nervewracking to be judged on performance by experienced people . . . but so invaluable what you have to learn through their feedback.
To cool off Rose, Emma and I went into Palolem to Cafe Coffee Day to get a ice cold drink (berry smoothie with ginger and Emma got a yummy frappe), and to sit in the air conditioning and get a bit of studying done.
THIS IS IT! It's what we came here for . . . we're on our way to becoming yoga teachers. It's so exciting! I cannot believe we only have one week left.
I plan to cherish EVERY SINGLE MOMENT; even the pain, exhaustion and discomfort I feel as I drag myself to class at 6 am.

Grey speaking at the podium . . . politician as a future career? Nah, I don't think so. |
