This is our third rainstorm since arriving in Goa. The last two days have been extremely humid - the worst since we arrived and you could just tell it needed to rain. The two nights before that they prepared the Shala for the rain that was to come and it never did.
It rained most of the night and then this photo is almost identical to what I saw as I watched the amazing lightening show on the beach. The lightening was so bright that it was as if someone turned a light switch on for a moment and you could make out the main land and see the never ending horizon of the ocean where it meets the sky. I would have to say it was one of the most majestic things I've experienced in my whole life.
This morning we woke to rain and the floors of both shalas were saturated with water as there is no enclosed area for us to practice. Rain is not normally an issue that comes up at this time in Goa as the monsoon season doesn't start until into June. But as I pondered before I left home, given how our weather systems have been nation wide, might it be possible monsoon will start early? I am hoping not as it would make it impossible to get all of our hours in. Class was indeed cancelled and it was to be our final led Ashtanga 2-hour series by Julia before we start our self-led practice tomorrow. As a group we all felt that we would like one more led class before starting self-led. We will have to wait and see.
Some went back to their room to sleep and others studied or did self practice in their room. I studied and caught up on homework. It was generally an overcast day which was nice as I was able to really focus on studying.
Mopping up the shala floor so we could practice after the rain |
We did our neti pot cleansing again today and some attempted with success the sutra neti with the catheter. I opted out of that again.
I did however go to Palolem to buy the most beautiful antiqued brass standing bell, complete with a brass gong and I managed to get the price that I felt was fair. I love to purchase a beautiful, unique statement piece from places I travel to - art or something that will be useful or last a lifetime. This was that piece. However, had the store owner not been willing to budge I was willing to walk away from it believing that it wasn't meant to be mine. Although I'm rather excited the universe decided it belonged in my home.
We did the rest of our classes and got a huge piece of homework in our Teaching Methodology class to design a 30-minute sequence made up of 2 standing sequences including balancing postures, 1 seated sequence including hip openers and a twist, 1 core posture, one backbend, and one inversion . . . and it all needs to flow. It is to be completed for Saturday and our self study time has been slotted with movie nights leaving me feeling like there won't be enough time to get it all done.
Dedication, dedication, dedication . . . it will be done.
Going to bed listening to the storm hoping for no rain in the morning as I'd prefer not to do my first self practice in my room alone.
Come on universe . . .
Namaste
J
